Studying Online at NJIT

  • Degree requirements remain the same regardless of course format or student status.
  • Courses at NJIT are offered in either format: online or on campus (traditional face to face). Both formats have equivalent content, rigor and quality. Course activities are adjusted to best fit the format's opportunities.
  • Any student may take courses in any format. (International students in the United States may be limited to a certain number of online courses in any semester.)
  • Specific courses may not be offered online or be offered online with varying frequency. Therefore completing a degree online will have limitations. We recommend you consult with the MS Advisor to plan a schedule.

Note:

  • Online courses are offered as anywhere/anytime (asynchronous) but may have a synchronous component to allow for interactive question/answer periods with the instructor.
  • An MS project can be used to substitute for an elective. An MS thesis requires at least two semesters and is equivalent to two courses in the program curriculum.
  • Co-op is available online.

Bridge Program:

If you do not have the background required for the MS CS degree program, you will be assigned preparatory courses (bridge courses) at the time we accept your application. The bridge courses are not available online. These are usually taken at NJIT's campus. However, you may take equivalent courses at other institutions with the proper permission obtained before enrolling in these courses. This permission is obtained from the MS Advisor or by examining the NJTransfer.org site.
