NJIT Hosts 6th Annual NY/NJ Conference of Computer Science Chairs
A yearly tradition of regional computer science department chairs sharing teaching methods, demonstrating new research and awarding high-quality teaching continued on the campus of NJIT in June.
The conference, now in its sixth year, aims to increase the visibility of computer science education in the region and encourage the exchange of information to raise the level of teaching across the board. Department heads from across New Jersey and New York assembled inside NJIT’s new Wellness and Events Center to discuss how to better improve computer science education in the region.
Talks were given by, among others, Esther Lewars, educational technology/computer science specialist with the New Jersey Department of Education; Patricia Morreale, professor at Kean University; Mayra Bachrach, lecturer at Kean University; and Iulian Neamtiu, associate professor at NJIT.
In addition to attendees sharing teachings and research methods, awards for outstanding teaching in computer science were given out. Award recipients were Austin Huang of Kean University, Benjamin Fine of Ramapo College and Nikhil Yadav of St. Johns University.
