Faculty Positions in Computer Science at NJIT:
The Computer Science Department at New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) invites applications for tenure-track faculty positions starting in Fall 2024, as follows:
- Tenure-track positions in cybersecurity
- Tenure-track position in all areas of computer science
We aim to hire at the rank of Assistant Professor, but exceptional candidates at higher ranks will also be considered.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree by Summer 2024 in a relevant discipline, and outstanding academic credentials that demonstrate their ability to conduct independent world-class research and attract external funding. Candidates with doctorates from top worldwide institutions are especially welcome to apply. NJIT is a Carnegie R1 Doctoral University (Very High Research Activity), with $167M research expenditures in FY22. The Computer Science Department has 31 tenured/tenure track faculty, with eight NSF CAREER, one DARPA Young Investigator, and one DoE Early Career awardees. The department conducts research to solve real-world grand challenges in computer science and plays a key role in the NJIT Cybersecurity Research Center. The department has strong connections with local industry and works closely with many companies through industry affiliate programs; these include major high-tech companies (Amazon, Apple, Facebook, Google, Microsoft, Qualcomm, AT&T) as well as financial/Wall Street companies (Bank of America, JP Morgan Chase) and Pharmaceuticals (Johnson & Johnson, Merck). The Computer Science Department enrolls over 3,200 students at all levels across eleven programs of study and takes part, alongside the Departments of Informatics and Data Science, in the Ying Wu College of Computing (YWCC). YWCC comprises 35% of the NJIT enrollment, educating more than 4,700 students in computing disciplines, and graduating over 1,000 computing professionals every year; as such, it is the largest producer of computing talent in the tri-state (NY, NJ, CT) area. The Computer Science Department is housed in a recently renovated state-of-the art facility. YWCC is undergoing significant growth as a priority area for NJIT. This is an integral part of NJIT's five-year strategic plan, which calls for positioning NJIT as a world-class institution of higher education and research.
Applied research, collaboration with industry, innovation and entrepreneurship are encouraged and supported. Performance and tenure expectations are aligned with those of the broader academic computing community, with an emphasis on grant funding and publishing in top conferences and journals, and contributing to our undergraduate and graduate instructional programs. NJIT is located in Newark's University Heights, a vibrant sprawling downtown campus close to Rutgers-Newark, New Jersey Innovation Institute, Essex Community College, New Jersey Medical School, University Hospital, and Rutgers School of Dental Medicine.
