Admission Requirements and Financial Support for the PhD in Computer Science Program
Admission Requirements
To be considered for financial support, application deadlines are December 15 for Fall admissions and October 15 for Spring admissions. However, we will continue to accept applications after the deadline for qualified candidates. Nearly all Ph.D. students enrolled in the program are fully supported as Research Assistants (RAs) or Teaching Assistants (TAs). The level of financial support is adequate for a comfortable living that enables the students to focus on their research. However, financial support is competitive and not all admitted students receive it.
Applicants are expected to have a superior background in the theory and practice of computer science, or of a closely related area such as information technology or computer engineering. They must have a bachelor degree from an accredited institution and demonstrate proficiency in English. Students who do not meet these requirements must strengthen their background before becoming eligible for admission.
An application must include the following:
Up-to-date CV (make sure to include the GPA for previous degree(s) under the "Education" section)
Statement of Purpose (describing your motivation for pursuing a doctoral degree, research interests and prior research experience, etc.)
Transcripts and proof of degree completion for all degrees from all colleges and universities attended
Results of the GRE examination. This is mandatory and cannot be waived
Results of the TOEFL/IELTS/Duolingo examination (may be waived if the applicant provides proof of a prior degree at an institution where instruction is based on English)
Three (3) letters of recommendation
$75 application fee (to ask for a fee waiver based on financial hardship, please contact csPhDProgram@njit.edu)
Once complete, an application will be evaluated for admission and financial support.
